Course Outline

Portraiture

  • To develop skills and knowledge in the formal elements of still life and printmaking, to aid in their own visual responses to briefs.

  • To explore Composition, shape, form, colour, tone, texture, pattern etc, through a range of drawn and painted medium and 3D techniques (Clay/ceramics).

  • To discover and research artists and movements, to link to and gain knowledge from (to show understanding), including Maggi Hambling, Stanley Spencer, Jenny Saville etc.

  • To extend literacy and technical speak in Art and design– linking to Keywords, SPag.

  • To understand how to compose a final artwork (showing elements of portraiture), in response to contextual and technical studies.

  • To be able to work with technical 3D skills safely and successfully.

  • Evaluate and discuss learning.

Pupils can extend their work with a more expressive use of research and development of ideas. Advanced pupils can increase the amount of research produced and link a variety of different sources and development tasks to their final pieces of work. Possible artists to look at: Nick Lepard, Xenia Hausner, Lucian Freud, Shepard Fairey etc.

Photography/Photoshop tasks using portraiture photos taken. How to transform their photos into artist inspired works using Photoshop techniques. This would extend their ICT knowledge and show greater breadth of work.

Pupils can extend their work with a more expressive use of research and technique. Advanced pupils can increase the amount of research produced and link a variety of different sources and development tasks to their final pieces of work.
